Fattoria Monticino Rosso
FATTORIA MONTICINO ROSSO (literally “farm on a little red hill”) lays on the hills of Imola, in Bologna county, surrounded by vineyars, apricot orchards and wheat fields. The Fattoria Monticino Rosso is a family-run farming business. It was established in 1965 when Antonio Zeoli bought the first thirteen-hectares parcel, named “Olmo” small farm. The Fattoria Monticino Rosso is a family-run farming business. It was established in 1965 when Antonio Zeoli bought the first thirteen-hectares parcel, named “Olmo” small farm.
In the following years his sons Luciano and Gianni expanded the property, and in 1985 the family acquired the twenty-four-hectares property “Monticino Rosso”, beside the first one and after which the whole farmstead was named.
The Farm rises among the hills of Imola, next to the border with the town of Dozza, where the production of the sparkling wines from Emilia gives way to the firm and full-bodied wines from Romagna. “Monticino Rosso” toponym was created during the Napoleonic era under the name of “Monticino dei meli granati” (“the pomegranates hill”) and for a century at least was owned by the noble Imolese family Codronchi Torelli, whose passion for this land improved the natural beauty of this land.
Luciano and Gianni are so grateful to the Codronchi Family that cared so much for this land, preserving the grapegrowing of the ancient indigenous varietals such as Albana Pignoletto and Centesimino, that Luciano and GIanni Zeoli called their most significant wines, the butrytis-attacked dry Albana di Romagna, “Codronchio”.
